Since the 1970s, lesbians from around the world have been drawn to the island of Lesvos, the birthplace of the ancient Greek poet Sappho. They find paradise in a local village and establish their own lesbian queer community. As more women visited the island in the summer in the mid-1980s to express their ‘lesbian’ identity in absolute freedom, tensions with the locals ran high.
Filmmaker Tzeli Hadjidimitriou - a lesbian born and raised there herself - is in the middle of it all, recounting more than 40 years of love, community, conflict and what it means to feel accepted.
A documentary filled with great archival footage and photos.
