Education

Education

At Roze Filmdagen we don’t just bring queer films to the big screen — we also make sure that young people engage with themes of sexual and gender diversity in an accessible and meaningful way. We offer educational programs for secondary education (vo) and vocational education (mbo), designed to encourage young people to critically reflect on themselves and the world around them.

Education Program for vo & mbo

Film moves, sparks conversations, and shows why representation matters. With our education program, we help students explore themes such as identity, prejudice, and representation in greater depth. In doing so, we raise awareness of the experience of sexual and gender identity and foster more recognition for queer youth.

The program consists of three complementary parts:

  • Preparatory Lesson – In the classroom, guest teachers from Roze Filmdagen provide an interactive lesson to prepare students for their festival visit. They are introduced to the films and explore the themes of prejudice, stereotypes, and representation.

  • Festival Visit – Students visit Roze Filmdagen at Het Ketelhuis or Theater de Krakeling, where they watch a selection of three short films.

  • Post-Screening Discussion – Afterwards, we facilitate a group conversation on-site about what students have seen and experienced. For this, we collaborate with COC Amsterdam. Their experienced guest speakers create a safe and open environment in which any question can be asked. The short films and the speaker’s personal story provide the starting point for a dialogue about the importance of being yourself.

Education Program for GSAs

We offer a special program with tailored teaching materials for GSAs (Gender & Sexuality Alliances) in schools. This program gives students the opportunity to explore queer themes and identity in a safe and familiar environment. It encourages dialogue about representation and is designed to strengthen the sense of recognition and belonging.
