ROZE FILMDAGEN FICTION COMPETITION

Stand a chance to secure a €15.000 investment for your short film project!

In addition to international productions selected for the festival, Roze Filmdagen annually spotlights nationally produced works. As a film festival, we find it crucial to provide a platform for homegrown queer film talent to showcase their creations to a wider audience. In an effort to stimulate the production of LGBTQ+ related stories, the festival is organizing a competition specifically for queer filmmakers, offering a €15.000 investment for a short LGBTQ+ related fiction film this year. This funding is intended for either the realization of the film or as a supplement to a budget, enabling the film to go into production.

To be eligible for this funding, the project must meet certain criteria:

  • It must be a short fiction film lasting between 5 to 20 minutes.
  • The film must have LGBTQ+ relevance, addressing LGBTQ+ themes and/or featuring LGBTQ+ protagonists. We encourage responses from queer creators, particularly those of color, and seek cultural diversity in themes, stories, as well as in the cast and crew (both in front of and behind the camera).
  • The plan preferably includes a fully developed screenplay, or at the very least, a comprehensive treatment clearly describing the intended narrative.
  • A well-defined directorial and stylistic vision is required.
  • A realistic (basic) budget and financing plan should be included.
  • The film must go into production in 2025, with its premiere scheduled for the 29th edition of Roze Filmdagen in March 2026.
  • Plans must be emailed to Roze Filmdagen no later than February 15, 2025, at filmwedstrijd@rozefilmdagen.nl
  • The plan can be submitted by a producer, director, and/or screenwriter, with a preference for all three roles to be filled. Additionally, one person can take on multiple roles (e.g., the screenwriter can also be the director, the director can also be the producer, etc.).

An expert jury comprised of professionals within the film industry and the LGBTQ+ community will evaluate the plans. Following the jury's assessment, the submitters of the top three plans will be invited for a discussion, after which the winner will be chosen in consultation with the Roze Filmdagen organization.

The recipient of the €15.000 funding will be announced during the 27th edition of Roze Filmdagen, taking place from March 19 to 30, 2025, at Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam.

Submit your plan for your LGBTQ+ related short fiction film by February 15, 2025, 5:00 PM, and stand a chance to win a €15.000 investment!

*Roze Filmdagen reserves the right not to award the winning amount if the professional jury, based on the submitted plans and discussions, determines a lack of confidence in the realization of the plans.
