(Úsvit)

The year is 1937, and in Czechoslovakia an entirely new industrial town arises. The future looks bright for Helena, the pregnant young wife of the factory director. However, her illusions are shattered when a gruesome and unusual incident occurs: the dead body of a stillborn intersex baby is found on the factory floor.

As Helen tries to find out what really happened, also for the safety of her own child, she runs into her own prejudices as well as society’s march toward authoritarianism.

Gripping yet beautiful drama, with exceptional cinematography. Eliska Krenkova delivers a stand-out performance as Helena, a brave woman who refuses to accept traditional ideas about gender and fights the fear of difference.
